The Two Things That Matter Most
We hire for a fairly narrow combination, and we are honest that it does not suit everyone.
- People who finish things
- A great deal of technology work is interesting at the start and tedious at the end. The last fifteen per cent (the edge cases, the migration, the handover documentation, the thing that only breaks on a Tuesday) is where client outcomes are actually decided. We notice who does that part well.
- People who can explain their reasoning
- You will sit in front of clients early, often more senior than you, and be asked why you recommended something. Being right is not sufficient; being able to show the reasoning is what earns the next piece of work. If you would rather never present, this is not the right environment.
A Short, Direct Process
A conversation, not a screening call
Someone who does the work you would be doing talks to you about what you have actually built and where it went wrong. We are more interested in a project that failed and what you took from it than in a list of technologies.
A practical exercise in your own time
Scoped to a couple of hours, related to real work, and never something we would ship. We pay attention to how you reason about trade-offs, not whether you reached our answer.
A discussion with the team and a straight offer
You meet the people you would work alongside and ask them anything. If we make an offer, it is our real position, and we will explain how we arrived at it.
